Jewellery Care

Gold Vermeil
18k gold vermeil is a high-quality method of gold plating, whereby sterling silver is coated with a thick layer (at least 2.5 microns) of 18k solid gold. The gold layer is five times thicker than the average gold plating, and far more durable.

Taking care of your gold vermeil jewellery
General care:
Avoid contact with water, sweat, and chemicals such as body lotion, perfumes, hair sprays, or hand sanitisers. The chemicals can interact with the metal and cause tarnishing or dullness. That’s why it is important to try that the last step when you get dressed is to put on your jewellery.
Cleaning:
If your jewellery is exposed to sweat or chemicals by accident, please clean it.
1.Wet a soft cloth into a bowl of lukewarm water with a small amount of soap dissolved in it, and gently rub your jewellery clean.
2. To remove the residual soap from your jewellery, rinse it with water and dry it well afterwards, as leaving it wet can deteriorate its condition.
Please note:
DO NOT use jewellery polishing cloths on your gold vermeil pieces, as they often contain polishing agents and chemicals meant for silver, not gold, and can cause premature wear-down.
DO NOT use a brush to clean your gold vermeil pieces, as the bristles could scratch the gold vermeil.
Storage:
We suggest that you DO NOT store your jewellery in out gift box long-term. In the box, the moisture and oils from your skin are trapped inside with the jewellery, and could accelerate the tarnishing process.

Sterling Silver
Sterling silver is an alloy made of 92.5% pure silver. The remaining 7.5% in the alloy makes our jewellery durable and perfect for everyday wear. Here's how to take care of your sterling silver jewellery:

Cleaning:
Each piece of silver jewellery purchased from Poeme includes a polishing cloth. The silver polishing cloth is pretreated with chemicals that will remove oxidation and turn your silver bright and shiny again.
For deep cleaning, you can either use a store bought jewellery cleaner, or mix baking soda and water to create a paste. Apply the paste to a soft cloth or brush and gently rub it onto the tarnished areas of your sterling silver jewellery. Rinse the jewellery thoroughly under cool running water to remove the paste. Pat the jewellery dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.
